HOPE Members March in the 46th Annual MLK Jr Parade

HOPE Members will March in the 46th Annual Original MLK Jr Parade & Festival in Downtown Houston.

On Saturday, February 10th, 2024, the Greater Houston community celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As a leader in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, Dr. King was at the forefront of issues of race, class, and justice. HOPE Members are proud to participate in the parade honoring Dr. King.

NOTE: Parking is available for those arriving before 8:15 AM at Lot H (1643 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77007). The map is below, and both your pass and your MLK Sweatshirt will be distributed on-site. HOPE members will be in the BLUE STAGING Group, so we'll see you there!

On April 3, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. traveled to Memphis to support AFSCME sanitation workers. This workforce mainly comprised black men, marking the struggle as truly an intersection between race and organized labor. That evening, he delivered his famous “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech to a packed room of supporters. The next day, he was assassinated. While the sanitation workers would be victorious, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. joined an unfortunately long list of leaders whose lives would be cut short in the struggle for change.
